Trooper George Henry Brocksopp, not Bloxopp as on the Roll of Honour, of the Lothian and Borders Light Horse Brigade, was born in 1892 in a hamlet in north Derbyshire. He was forgotten in the village until his descendant, Helen Rowell, came to live here in 1990 and decided to find out why he was on a memorial so far from home. The 1914 Stirling County Valuation Roll for the parish of Gargunnock records him as being a stud groom for Sir George Younger, Viscount Younger of Leckie. As Charles Younger, the third son of Sir George Younger, is the only other Lothian and Borders soldier on the memorial we speculate that George Brocksopp went with him to war as his groom or similar. Trooper Brocksopp was killed at Flanders 30th March 1918 age 25. He is commemorated on the memorial to those without a known grave at Pozieres in France. The mystery remains as to when and why he came from Sheffield to Gargunnock.
