Saturday 23rd April 2005 vs. Fintry at Gargunnock.

The 2005 Forth & Endrick season kicked off on Saturday where Gargunnock entertained Fintry. This game was originally scheduled to take place at Fintry, however as this clashed with the closing of Strathendrick's rugby season, the game was switched to Gargunnock.

The game started off with Gargunnock shooting up the hill and enjoying the most of the early pressure. Several chances were created and John Lamond had the ball in the net but it was chalked off for offside. However, shortly after Gargunnock opened the scoring when Graham Ritchie scored with a neat finish from around 10 yards. Fintry began to come back into the game and created some chances, but a combination of poor finishing and solid defending kept them out. Their pressure paid off when they equalised shortly before half-time.

The second half started with Gargunnock as expected, having most of the early pressure shooting down hill. They were unlucky not to score with the young Fintry goalkeeper pulling off a series of saves to keep the game tied. With about 15 minutes to go, Gargunnock were awarded a free kick around 20 yards out on the right and George Lamond stepped up and hit a tremendous strike in off the post to give Gargunnock the lead. Fintry tried hard for the equaliser, but Gargunnock held on for a hard fought win and the first 3 points of the season.

Overall this was a reasonable performance from Gargunnock and with several players still to come into the team, something to build on for the season.

Result: Gargunnock 2, Fintry 1
