The Future of Gargunnock Community Centre
Background
Our Community Centre is in great need of renovation. It is leased by the Community from Stirling Council. Proposals by the Community for Refurbishment have been developed over the past 2 years
- Architects designs and drawings prepared and presented to and agreed by the community
- Agreed Design has been fully costed
- Application to alter building submitted to Stirling Council in September 2006
- Access to Information requested - Council relased their Options Report
- Gargunnock Community Trust write to Council October 2006
- Council eventually reply January 29th 2007
Council Report
Stirling Council is considering the following options:
- Continue with the Status Quo
- Dispose of all Council ownership in this vicinity ie sell the Community Centre site
- Dispose of part of the Community Centre site and continue to lease part of the site ie sell land adjoining centre.
Issues
- Council appears to be linking the Community Centre with the Development of the school
- Council appears to be linking the development of the Football Pavillion with the need for the centre
- The school is not in any programme and will not be developed for a further 5 years
- The Centre needs refurbishment now
- There is a serious danger that our plans for renovation will be blighted by the Council’s lack of decision.
- We need a decision from the Council to provide a 20 year lease in toder to attract grants from lottery funds etc
- In order to attract funding we need to raise a share of the amount required. We need people to support the committee in fundraising.
How You Can Help
Support the Committee by
- join the management committee or
- become a Friend of Gargunnock Community Centre. A “friend” is someone who does not want to get involved in committees but would be willing to help out from time to time.
If you can do either of these please e-mail Douglas Johnston with name, address and a contact number.
Help us make the Centre fit for the 21st century
