Programme of Participants

The Gargunnock Music Festival is a celebration of the breadth and strength of talent available within and to the village. All participants have a local connection – whether by birth, residence, membership of local groups, or friendship.

Marion Wyllie

A rising opera star in the making. Marion regularly performs as guest soloist for local operatic and choral societies and is a full member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland.  She has recently triumphed at both Perth and Falkirk Music Festivals and will sadly be leaving Gargunnock soon to take up studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Hamish Whiteford

A much sought after star of Burns Suppers throughout the years, Hamish now limits his performances to occasional charity and church concerts locally with The Milton Fiddlers.

Catherine Tabberner

Popular soloist with various West Midlands’ Operatic and Choral Societies and now leader of Bromsgrove-based Belle Voci.  Returns to Gargunnock after a break of 12 years to sing lighter classics and folk melodies.

The Culbeg Connection

Led by local resident Angus Scott, these talented musicians will provide a collection of toe tapping jazz/latin/bluesy music to kick-start the Music Festival in style.

The Junkateers

A young, newly formed Glasgow based, jazz group, led by talented jazz guitarist, Dave Series from Gartmore, providing a stunning mix of modern jazz, funk and improvisation.

Gargunnock Songsters

Since its formation in 1999, this village group has gone from strength to strength and is now regularly invited to perform a selection of lighter music to a wide range of audiences across Scotland’s central belt.

Gargunnock Festival Chorus

Gargunnock Songsters have many talented friends who, for various reasons, are unable to perform regularly with the group. The Gargunnock Festival gathers these friends together for the first time in an unforgettable performance of Zadok the Priest.

The Gargoyles

A small group of Songsters who perform popular folk songs acapella, singing at the Grand Concert, the Folk Night and also busking.

RSAMD

Greg Sinclair (of RSAMD Youth Works Project) returns to Gargunnock to lead children’s workshops on 13th May.  RSAMD Tutor Margaret Marshall is also lending her considerable expertise behind the scenes to various groups performing in the Festival.

Folk Session

Local fiddler Kate Bovill welcomes musicians from across the Stirling area to this traditional open session.  Just come along to listen or bring along your voices, fiddles, whistles, bodhrans, guitars etc & help us raise the roof!

Robin Bell (B. Music (Hons) ARCO

Accomplished parish organist to Stenhouse and Carron and an enthusiastic member of Stirling and District Society of Organists.  He will play a wide range of lighter organ classics for your delight.

JOKATZ

Local singer Stevie Buchanan and guitarist Jok Gray will perform a mix of classic hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

John Smellie

Popular local soloist and regular performer with local group Scene 2.  John will enliven the regular Fish and Chips supper in the Gargunnock Inn by encouraging patrons to join him in the Old Time Singalong featuring many old favourites.

Maitland Clark

This man’s fame goes before him. Beloved by all in Gargunnock and surrounding areas, his popular performances as ‘The Kindly Shopkeeper’ have enlivened many a village event. His skills come to the fore in presenting his own ‘All-Star’ Variety Night.

Flowers for Algernon and Circus

This is your chance to hear two of the best Acoustic bands on Edinburgh's flourishing live music circuit right here in Gargunnock.  Both bands will play a selection of their own original material plus rock classics.

Poets

Gargunnock has a strong tradition of performance of its own poetry – the village WRI team even represented Stirlingshire in a national competition in Fochabers last year.  The Festival brings together poets of all ages and backgrounds to perform their own works in the launch of the first ever Gargunnock Poetry Book.

Children

The Festival aims to involve performers of all ages. Events will include performers from Gargunnock Primary School, the Playgroup, Rainbows, Guides and Brownies groups.

Art Exhibition

Gargunnock Community Centre will display a collection of art and craftwork from residents of all ages or abilities to display around the Centre. This will include a special display of Underwater Photography by local resident Elaine Whiteford.  Entry to the Art Exhibition will be free throughout both weekends of the Festival and, for those happy to part with their masterpieces, a silent auction will be run to raise further funds.

Gargunnock Tearoom

What better place to meet friends for a blether? To be serving the very best of Gargunnock’s home-made soups, cakes and other light refreshments.
