2005 Gala

Gala BBQ Thursday June 16th 2005

Following a very rainy day we took a late decision on Thursday to move the BBQ from the park to the Community Centre and this meant we had to cancel football and netball competitions which are generally a feature of BBQ night. Fortunately all the other attractions such as Bouncy Castle and Play Van were able to re-locate too and the tug ‘o war was able to proceed and a fierce competition saw Charles Street come out as winners.

The serious business of the day over the fun began in earnest with the races while goody bags were handed out to the children and the adults refuelled in the tea room and this year with burgers and hot dogs from the BBQ too.

The many side stalls were well attended and there were opportunities to bat the rat, beat the goalie, hook the duck as well as decorating tea biscuits and having your face painted.

After the races there was the football competition, rescheduled from Thursday night.

Medals for the football and netball competitions were awarded, the Football competition winners were Jack Urquhart, Cian Paget, Alistair Petrie, Kirsten McAllister, Mark Parry, Douglas Boys, Thomas Cummings.

As the netball had been cancelled on BBQ night the competition was held at school on Friday, the winning team consisted of Lisa Letford, Mimi Brophy, Chloe Rock, Emily Anderson, Gail Hyland, Katie Ferguson, Stewart Leask, Amy Bruce, Sophie Grosvenor and Sam Christie.

The raffle for the many superb prizes such as a bike donated by Stuart Wilson, voucher from Cloggs in Drymen, bottles of wine and whisky, teddy bears amongst many others was drawn towards the end of the afternoon. The events in the park drew to a close with the Great Gargunnock Gala Balloon Race again sponsored by the Gargunnock Inn This year there were over 300 balloons sold, they made quite a spectacle as they took off.

The fun didn’t end in the park however, as the youngsters went home to don their party gear and head for the gala disco.

There are many, many people who help make the Gala such an enjoyable day, thanks to everyone who contributed.
