Flower Show

The brilliant sunshine on Saturday morning brought out the residents of Gargunnock to display their exhibits in the community centre for the local flower show. Sir Peter Hutchinson from Kippen opened the show at 2.15pm and remarked on both the quality and quantity on exhibition. Both residents and visitors were given a feast of colour from the pot plants and flowers, a display of vegetables with huge onions and leeks, Helen Scott's pumpkin that had to be lifted out of her car and cabbages that could feed an army. The floral art displays and industrial sections this year were outstanding and gave the judges some difficult decisions. When the points were added up the overall winner was again Willie Cambell with Ronnie Carson just 2 points behind. However Ronnie did have the best exhibit in the Show for his outstanding hanging basket of begonias. Newcomer to the show Wendy Pizey was delighted that her tomatoes were given first prize. Catherine Richardson was first in the industrial and floral art sections. The Children's section was won again by Laura Henderson and David Mayhew's rock buns were judged as the best children's exhibit.
